The pilot of BIONIC WOMAN was really strong and
last weeks episode was OK, but this third
episode Sisterhood was a great blast
off point for viewers who maybe came into the
series a bit late. (Of course, Im pretty
sure you can go on NBC.com and download episodes
that you missed.)
Part of my complaint with this series had been
that its incredibly tough to work a drama/genre
show into something that is both normal and extraordinary.
Its tough to develop characters with extra
abilities that we can identify with as an audience
and actually care about week to week. This episode
finally allowed the series to combine the action
aspects along with the family feel, so that Michelle
Ryan had something to build from and react to.
The interaction with her sister was great in this
episode and we got to see a little bit behind
the original BIONIC WOMANs past.
This was the point where I really legitimately
started liking and rooting for Jaime Sommers;
not that I disliked the character before this
point, but I really finally started to get a sense
of human connection with a character that I otherwise
was watching to see how many cool effects and
stunts she could do. Writer and producer David
Eick is fleshing her out while simultaneously
developing Jamies confidence in her own
powers.
Katee Sackhoff returned in this episode, and even
though almost every critic said that she overshadowed
Michelle Ryan on the pilot episode, I felt that
this time the interest was more balanced. By this
point weve been through a bit more with
Ryans character, and while Sackhoffs
demented BIONIC killer Sarah is fun to watch shes
become more like the character of Faith in BUFFY
THE VAMPIRE SLAYER. Sarah is the bad girl we all
really enjoy seeing, but were also kinda
glad when she leaves because she always seems
to stir the s**t.
The dastardly Mark Sheppard as Dr. Anthros is
hanging around again in this episode as well,
and hes an actor that I can never really
get enough of. Hes just so good at being
bad that he makes every moment that he is on screen
fun to watch.
Of course, the BIONIC fight sequences in this
weeks episode were great fun and I really
just cant wait to see Jamie cut loose.
