Episode #105 - 'Faceoff'

New characters in this episode include: Beto Ruiz: a Paraguyan cop, Antonio: works with Jonas [who sounds like he could be Bruce McGill's character], Matthew Stevens: in his 30's, previously worked for the goverment as a crytogrpaher. He has been kidnapped when the episode starts, The Secretary: secretary of state?, Raul: terrorist?

Stevens previously worked for the goverment, and is also a qualified doctor. He was 'always a savant with word games, puzzles'. He was 'recruited during a 2-year residency at Walter Reed, by the CIA. He may word as a decryptor of coded messages.

Stevens is working in Triple Border now, "To atone. Doctoring people who have nothing", but he does the occassional 'favour' for the CIA deciphering documents/messages. He has 2 children: Hannah, aged six, and Rosie, aged four.

Mr Secretary briefs Antonio at the start of the epsidoes that Stevens has been kidnapped by showing him a ransom video on an Iphone. The Secretary talsk about someone called 'Smith' and that he "... wants what Stevens has" [?].

Antonio owes the secretary a 'debt' which he says if this gets them Smith, will be paid.

Antonio says he can't just waltz into Paraguay to get Stevens. The Secretary tells him to ".. take your wife. Jones' Bionic Woman. Think of her as your Trojan Horse"

Jaime has a conversion with Jonas, asking where he is with Sarah [Corvus]. He says he is "Handling it", but you get impression he is not ready for the 2 of them to meet again as he doesn't think jaime is reayd yet. A third character Antonio is there and is pushing for Jonas to move things along. Jonas says "I don't like threats". Antonio says "Then you're in the wrong line of work"

The terrorists are holding Stevens in a 10-storey tower block, "Ciudad Del Este", at night.

Beto's involvement is around a kidnapping, he thinks this the terrorists third kidnap/ransom plot. He appears to have gotten Jaime ands Anotio involved off the books as he says if Jaime gets caught "I don't know you"

Stevens aparently broke the code on a flash drive and read it's contents: the cryptographers job is only to break the code, NOT read the contents. The contents of the file is EVERYTHING on the Bionics project.

Stevens may have been kidnapped because he knows about the Bionic project, from the flash drive, as the terrorists ask him about Jaime. He doesn't give them the information they want: "...I'd have given them technology to do what? Who would they have sold it to?"

Antonio and Jaime get 'caught' by the terrorist during the rescue. Both have hoods over their heads and their hands tied behind their backs. Jaime is able to scan the environment, even through the hood. Antonio says the terrorists are going to make an example of them in front of Stevens.

When the terorist are defeated, Antonio is planning to shoot Stevens because of the information he knows, rather thanlet it fall into enemy hands - Antonio says people will stop at nothing to find out what Stevens knows: torture, kidpnapping, even threatening Stevens family. Jaime refuses to let Stevens be shot, even though it may mean she is putting a target on her back if the information gets out. Jaime knocks Antonio aside and makes a break for freedom with Stevens.

Jaime is injured in the rescue, as she and Stevens escape, Jaime is 'in shock' and her 'shoulder is bleeding'

At one point Jaime's hand starts shaking. Stevens notices it as tells Jaime it is her bionic interface failing, and being reset.

Jaime learns from Stevens, who says her anthrocytes can fight injury/rejection, but over time they become "...fatigued" The Bionic information has decoded from a flash drive talked about "a five year... projection". When Jaime asks until what, he says "Bionic systems cease to function"

Whilst trying to get through a secure door with a numbered security keypad, Jaime scans the keys with her Bionic eye, noting wear, dirt, and fingerprints. Shje is able to 'read' the security number: Nine, six, five, two.

Jaime and Stevens shelter in a convenience store to treat her wounds.

Jaime has a bullet in her should and when examining the wound it appears the anthrocytes are moving in the wound and creating a mesh around the bullet, lodging it deep in her shoulder. When Stevenes asks if she feels anything as he probes the wound Jaime says "I feel it. But not as pain"

Stevens knows what anythrocytes are and tells Jaime they are designed to stop her body rejecting the Bionics. That they work to incorporate what is foreign, not repel it.

When Jaime is asking Stevens a question, she zooms in on his pupil and listens to his heartbeat, to tell if he is lying. As it turns out he is not.

The Paraguyan Police are credited with the rescue of Stevens. A discussion between Jonas and The Secretary as they watch the press conferance gives the impression Stevens was NOT to have been rescued and should have died. Jonas gloats over the secretary's fury at Stevens being alive and well, saying "You wanted him rescued" and "I advised against taking Sommers" This gives the impression Jaime was instrumental in Stevens rescue, even though iit was planned for the mission to fail.

Will is still at his father's compound in this episdoe. His father bring him some books "... as a peac offering" His father recounts how Will loved H.G. Wells as a boy.

Anthros says to Will that he a secret - something he figured out when he was in prison. "Something that's going to change the world"

Sarah appears to be in a holding cell at the Berkut compound. Jae goes to see her and tells her Jonas can help her. Sarah is sceptical and says Jonas just wants his lackey back. Sarah says if Jae can get proof that Jonas has made advances that he can help her, she might remember where he can find Will

Ruth discovers Jae in her office, going through various files. Jae implies Jonas has been lying to 'her' [Sarah Corvus], but asks why he is being lied to. Ruth says it is because Jae has a blindspot. "... and Jonas needs to find Will"

Jae has been looking through files in Ruth's office as Ruth indicates the files reveal that what is left of Sarah is ..."ruthless. Psychopathic." Ruth asks Jae if he thinks a 'new part' will fix Sarah. "So what, she's expendable now?" he asks. Ruth comes back "You forget... we're all expendable"

Jaime has a flashback to episode 4 which reveals Sarah Corvus on Spartan Bridge holding an unconscious Becca by the neck, one handed, over an 80-foot drop! Sarah grip loosens, Jaime screams, as Becca slips and her eyes open....
