Contact confirms BW still alive and kicking!
I got an email from a hollywood agent who works for the William Morris Agency earlier this week, confirming he spoke to NBC over the weekend and Bionic Woman is NOT cancelled, contary to reports on the internet. He says that unless anything changes, NBC are not planning to make any decision on the show until after the writer's strike is over. This information also seems to be confirmed by SyFy Portal yesterday. From what I can gather NBC are looking to make good on their commitment to produce all 13 of the promised episodes!

Bionic Woman cancelled says Hollywood.com
Hollywood.com is reporting that the show is officially cancelled, although there is no word from the studio yet. Several sites are reporting the same. The article says... An insider tells British newspaper the Daily Star, "This is devastating news for the cast. They loved working on the program. Michelle is going to be very upset. This was a huge break for her--a chance in a lifetime. "The show has been criticized. People complained about the poor storylines. But the writers have hardly any time to work with the characters. They were just getting used to them." We'll report further when we hear anything more definite, but this could be it. Stay tuned.

Michelle on GMTV today
Michelle was in the GMTV studio today, on the UK ITV1 channel, for a brief 5 minute interview. We didn't really find out anything new, they covered the usual ground of how she was finding fame on a hit show, how she got the role, and if she was enjoying it. They did ask about romance and she said there wasn't anyone at the moment although she had dated once, or twice. She catagoricaly denied the rumours of her and Owrn Wilson dating, saying she hadn't even met him. She revealed she was over here at the moment due to the writer's strike, but gave no indication of the future of the show or when she might be back at work - it kind of felt it was almost avoided on purpose. Given the nature of breakfast TV and the light-weight interviewers, I guess it was never going to be hard hitting or very revealing. Anyway, here are some screengrabs for anyone who didn't manage to catch it.

Bionic Woman's fate still in a holding pattern
Despite several sites, including aint-it-cool-news reporting the strike is almost over, other sites are not so optimistic. Variety.com has news of how the networks are rre-arranging their winter schedules in the absence of new episodes of their shows. As far as NBC go, Variety reports that NBC has yet to confirm the fate of Bionic Woman or Life, although Life had been renewed for a full season, NBC hasn't made any official decisions on Bionic Woman.Variety also says "Most industry insiders consider Bionic Woman a long shot for a renewal. There have been discussions about revamping the show and relaunching a sort of "Bionic" 2.0, but as ratings for the skein continue to sag -- and the strike drags on -- that's become less likely."

Katee sets the record straight!
Regarding the comments about her wanting to leave Bionic Woman and not getting on with fellow star Michelle Ryan, Katee Sackhoff tells TV Guide this week neither could be further from the truth "I have no plans to leave Bionic Woman, and Michelle Ryan is doing a great job. There's not one ounce of bad blood between us." Sackhoff tells TV Guide that she absolutely did not diss either BW or its star at a recent convention. (as reported by Roadrunner on her blog) "It's sad," says Sackhoff, "because you want to connect with the fans, and then they throw it in your face in a negative light."

Sackhoff confides she's meeting with producers "to discuss my involvement in the show, which was pretty limited this year" — pre-strike, she was slated for seven episodes — "because of my obligations to Battlestar Galactica." Making clear she's "contractually obligated to a six-year deal" on BW, she insists she'd be "happy as a clam" to stay that long. "It's fun and it's a physical role, and god knows that's what I love to do." That said, "If they want to cut my involvement, that's totally fine. I understand that it's called Bionic Woman, not "Women." It would be nice to actually do a pilot season."

Michelle on GMTV next week
GMTV has Michelle Ryan down as a guest in the studio for the Wednesday, December 5th, edition of ITV's flagship breakfast show. Her segment is between 7:00am and 8:35am GMT. It will be nice to see Michelle interviewed on a British show, presenters who are familiar with her previous TV work. This will be the first UK TV interview since winning the BW started airing back in September. We'll post footage and screengrabs ASAP!

Roadrunner convetion report wrong?
Several people have commented on the news of November 21st and Roadrunner's report of what she heard Katee Sackhoff say at the convetnion. Some people have said they DIDN'T hear what Roadrunner reported. Marimba emailed Superheroflix.com and said:
"We all attended this con and at NO TIME did Katee Sackhoff say that she was quitting the show or that she had any problem with Michelle Ryan. She did say that the show was a "clusterfrak" which is no more thanmediapundit has been saying. Also I never heard Katee say that she quit, I got the impression that she had filmed all the eps that she was contracted for, prior to the strike. Nor did I hear her utter negative comments about Michelle Ryan."

On Marimba's Live Journal, LJ user pandora_576 summed up Katee Sackhoff's panel: "Well, I and a few others attended the Con and Katee's talk. This is what we basically heard. Katee doesn't know if BW will survive the strike. She's meeting with a new show runner in a couple of weeks to talk about the future of the show. Battlestar has such a following that it does make sense for them to finish it.
BW is an expensive show and the ratings are (Katee made a raspberry noise).
Katee said that one of her trivia questions should have been 'Who knows why Bionic Woman isn't doing well' To which the audience shouts lots of diff things, I heard 'no Katee' Katee shrugged and said I didn't say that. I don't know what will happen."

November 21st 2007
Sarah Corvus no more?
At a recent Burbank convention where Katee Sackhoff was a guest, Roadrunner reports on her blog that Katee has all but disassociated herself from the Bionic Woman series! Roadrunner says:
"Katee Sackhoff is done with Bionic Woman, and not just because of the strike. She has a meeting with one of the producers after Thanksgiving, but does not expect to return to the show even if it does resume production (which I don't personally believe will happen anyway). She is even already trying to divorce herself from being associated with Sarah Corviss. Katee never came out and explicitly stated the reason for her departure from the show, but her thinly veiled sassy comments made it pretty apparent that there isn't a lot of love going on between her and Michelle Ryan. (Frankly, I'd go so far as to say that Katee was skating a fine line toward being rather unprofessional at times. I'm no fan of Michelle Ryan or Bionic Woman, but it's bad form in any industry to insult your co-workers in front of the customers, and Katee needs to be careful that she doesn't start burning bridges.)"

If true, this would be a great shame as fans of the show have said some of it's best moments where with the 2 Bionic woman together, either in the Pilot or 'Sisterhood'. If the show does return, we may not get the closure we expected from the Sarah-Jaime plots lines already out there. It might also mean we don't find out what caused Sarah to go haywire in the first first and escape the Berkut compound. With the absence of the Sarah Corvus character from the past 3 episodes, and no mention of her in episode 8, 'Do Not Disturb', there may be some truth in this report.

November 18th 2007
'Do Not Disturb' promo photo's
Here are a selection of shots from the next [and perhaps final] episode to air. The show is currently in limbo after this episode due to the writer's strike and we'll look to keep you up-dated on what is happening as the news comes in. In the meantime,enjoy...

The Hollywood Reporter is saying that stars such as Alec Baldwin, Tina Fey and Bionic Woman's Michelle Ryan have all seen their TV contracts suspended as a consequence of the Hollywood's writers strike. BW cancelled by Christmas?
SyFyPortal, amoungst others, are reporting that the Bionic Woman's days appear to be numbered, after the series dropped again in the ratings this week to an all-time low of 4.0/7 share, and was even beaten by Journeyman [4.1/6]. A further blow came as the writer's srtike bit into TV filming schedules and NBC was forced to shut down it's BW shooting in Vancouver on November 9th, a full month ahead of it's planned December 12th hiatus, thanks in part to a lack of new scripts. The Sci-Fi channel also stopped production on Battlestar Galactica, for the same reason. CanMag reported that Ken Ferguson, president of Toronto Film Studios says the value of the Canadian dollar is as much to blame as the WGA [Writers Guild of America] Strike when it comes to the Bionic Woman. With the US dollar losing strength, studios aren't enjoying the savings they once had by shooting up North. Several sources have said the show could be culled from the ratings as soon as Christmas, meaning we wouldn't even get to see NBC's planned January 2-parter re-launch episodes that has recently been talked about.

BW relaunch in January?
In an interview on BuddyTV Michelle has said that despite slipping ratings she is confident that they are still in the thick of the fight, especially with the network's plans for the coming year. She says "NBC will be giving the series a big second launch in January," Your guess is as good as our what this means, but it is another good sign that NBC are commited to the series. Michelle also talks about how she feels Jaime is ready for some romance. "It's definitely time," Ryan said. “Everything she does is for others. The time has come for her to think of herself and have some fun." This is referance to guest star Jordan Bridges, who plays Tom. "He's going to be doing three episodes - at least,” Ryan mentioned, adding that the two of them have “a nice chemistry. I think it will be a good addition to the show."

BW gets new showrunner
The Hollywood Reporter tells us Jason Cahill is now coming aboard Bionic Woman as a showrunner and will help steer the series behind the scenes. For the past month, the writers' room on the show has been run by Friday Night Lights exec producer Jason Katims. Katims has been pulling double duty on BW and Friday Night Lights since joining BWas a consultant in early September. Cahill has worked on some prestiges hit shows, including NYPD Blue, ER, Profiler and The Sopranos. He won a WGA Award for his work on The Sopranos, and most recently served as co-exec producer on another freshman drama, CBS' Cane. This continues to support NBC's faith in the Bionic show and that they are prepared to make changes to ensure it is a hit. Let's keep our fingers crossed!

Rating drop & Writers Strike go-ahead
Bionic Woman was dealt a double blow this week, when the show saw a fourth week ratings drop, since it's premiere at the end of September, as well as reports that the film and Tv unions have voted overwhelmingly to go on strike at the start of November. Last week's ratings dropped to 8.5 million and NBC's Wednesday night was placed third out of the 4 networks. The show still tails behind Criminal Minds and Private Practice [which dipped slightly last week]. This week's episode looks to be crucial to the show. There have been rumours NBC might move it to Monday night's after Heroes, to give it more of a boost, a sure sign the network hasn't given up on it's Bionic creation.

Regarding the impending writers strike, the Associated Press have confirmed the unions have voted over whelmingly to strike from the 1st of November. More than 5,000 members of the Writers Guild of America cast ballots, with 90 percent voting in favor of authorizing the strike, the union said last Friday evening. Studios and TV networks have stepped-up filming of shows and movies and begun stockpiling scripts in case of a strike. The last strike in 1988 lasted 22 weeks. Losses to the industry were put at $500 million.

October 13th 2007
Ratings hold up, more scripts ordered
The ratings for episode 3, 'Sisterhood', held steady this week, which is a relief and it came with around 10.10 million viewers. Whilst not an out and out runaway, this is a safe number and NBC will be watching what happens to the show over the coming weeks. Despite the fact the show still came in thrid behind Criminal Minds and Private Practice, 2 shows everyone knew would be tough competition, BW is still doing better in it's timeslot than last years similar place Biggest Loser. In addition NBC has given the greenlight for 3 new scripts for all four of it's new Fall shows. This is sometime seen as a sign the networks are looking to greenlight to show for a full season, however this year it might also be in anticipation of the impending writer's strike.

Michelle chats on The View
Michelle was on the American chat show The View this week. Nothing really new was said, but it was a nice interview with the participants all excited about Michelle and her show and made a change from the usual one-on-one interviews we've had of late. Watch it here....

Jason Katims in charge?
aintitcool.com reports, that a relaibale source inside the BW writers room has said that Jason Katims is now virtually in charge of the day-to-day running of Bionic Woman. “As of right now, the show is being entirely run by Katims,” the insider told Ain’t It Cool. “Make of that what you will.” Katims was initially brought on as a "consultant".

David Eick is said to be busy with the fourth season of Battlestar Galactica and the Lifetime miniseries The Gathering and is maintianing a supervisory role on the show. Laeta Kalogridis wrote the original Pilot for BW, but has not been involved creativly with the show and apparently Laeta's Pilot script was extensively rewritten by an uncredited Jason Smilovic. Smilovic apparently left “Bionic” last month, around the time Katims came aboard.

“Originally, Smilovic was supposed to showrun BW for a 12-week period, to help it get off the ground, with the possibility that he'd stay on longer if the show was doing well,” said the insider. “However, when people started getting fired and Jason Katims was brought on, Smilovic left after the 12-week period ended.”

October 10th 2007
Strike threatens BW production
Variety reveal that the Eriters Guild may be preparing to go on strike at he end of October, placing a burden on the networks whether to continue with new and un-proven shows, such as our beloved Bionic Woman. By Nov. 1, the Networks will have enough episodes of current shows in the can to get them through to mid-January. But the February sweeps [an all important ratings period for TV networks] would be decimated by the strike, and new shows would halt production well before they'd filled their initial 13 episode orders.

"If Fox has to shut down a show like K-Ville in the middle of filming the seventh episode, they might just decide it makes more sense to simply cancel it," one agent said. That's because keeping the K-Ville sets in place and its cast together would be costly. If the show were a hit, keeping the skein in a holding pattern would make sense, but given its weak early numbers, Fox might simply decide it makes sense to cut and run. That decision would have a cost, too. TV shows generally need to produce 13 episodes to earn international coin. If shows such as K-Ville -- or CBS' ratings-challenged Cane or even our Bionic Woman -- wrap before they get to 13 segs, they'll likely end up a total loss for both the network and the studio that produces the show.... watch this space!

Rating update
Okay, so BW didn't hold up well in the ratings this week, apparently losing a thrid of it's audience. This isn't as bad as it first sounds and although it trailed well behind Gray's Anatomy spin-off, Private Practise, [which is going to be a hard show to beat], Bionic Woman still drew bigger audience numbers than NBC's flag-ship show Heroes.

Isaiah to get Bionic spin-off series?
There is already talk, according to SyFy Portal, that Isaiah Washington may get a spin-off show for his character of Pope on Bionic Woman... this before his first appearence has even aired! That's right, the new series has only aired a single episode, yet NBC is already trying to turn the "Bionic Woman" concept into a 21st century franchise, hedging its bets that the controversial former "Grey's Anatomy" star will provide the power needed to get it going.

"I may end up doing more that five episodes," Washington said, "I don't see myself becoming a series regular, but there's some talk about spinning me off into my own show once 'Bionic Woman' becomes a huge hit." Washington will play the character of Antonio Pope on the series for a half-dozen episodes who the actor says is "very good with a 9mm and an M16."

Episode order update
The running order for the first 4 Bionic episodes now look like this: 'Pilot'; 'Paradise Lost'; 'Sisterhood'; and 'Face Off'. An interview with BW's diretcor of photography here, reveals that most of the footage from 'Birds' [supposed to be the second episode, picking up after Will's father escapes the Supermax Prison] was thrown out, and what remained combined with newly shot scenes for 'Paradise Lost'. Seems with the loss of Glen Morgan, when Katims came on board he helped rewrite the first 3 stories. [thanx to Andy for the info]. The article is abit techie and talks about various camera techniques, but has several behind the scenes shot of Michelle working with a green screen.

'Sisterhood' summary
Spoiler Tv also say the storyline for 'Sisterhood' has Jaime protecting a contractor's daughter. At the same time, she ponders whether or not to help Sarah move past her personal demons. Interesting and this may be the first steps to getting Sarah Corvus back into the Berkut group as an ally, rather than an adversary.

BW storms the ratings!
As was hoped, BW has done exceptionally well in the ratings with it's premier episode. NBC bested ABC as Bionic Woman beat Private Practice, the Grey’s Anatomy spin off, in the important 18-49 demographic, garnering 13.6 million viewers overall, according to Nielsen. However, Private Practice had more total viewers than Bionic Woman with 14.2 million. For all you number crunchers, Reuters have a breakdown in terms of market share, demographics share, etc. Go stats-nuts here....

Review, review, review

What we've done is take a sample of some of the bigger sites/newpaper reviews which have shown up and put them all on one page for your perusal. They are a mix of positive and negative [only fair!] and it will be interesting to go back and read the same reviews maybe half-a-dozen episodes further along, or even a full season in and see how accurate they were in their impressions of Jaime's first steps. New title.... new spoilers
We now have a title for episode 7, and it's...'Everything Will Change' and is due to air on November 7th. We also have some kick-ass spoilers just in from episode 6, 'The Journey'. Not to give too much away, but Jaime finds herself working alongside her arch-nemisis Sarah Corvus, following on from events in the previous week's show, 'Faceoff'. If you want them, the spoilers are here....

More series woes?
Judd, on our very own forum, says he has heard from a reliable source in the industry that NBC are really unhappy with the episodes that Glen Morgan worked on and are thinking of junking them and re-shooting them. This feeds into the rumours that the show may go on hiatus early in it's run as the production staff play catch-up. Along with re-casting, re-shoots, change of production staff and now possible major re-structure of the show, times are tough for our Bionic heroine and we can only hope people tune in in droves and stay with the show through it's early episodes, demonstrating a solid and loyal fanbase for it. It's a tough timeslot, as we've spoken about before, and BW needs to put on a good show as it comes out of the starting gate if it is to survive.

On-set filming in Vancouver

Glen Morgan's replacement named
Writer-producer Jason Katims, who created the TV version of “Roswell” and currently serves as showrunner on NBC’s “Friday Night Lights,” will serve as a “consultant” on the network’s “Bionic Woman,” according to a TV Guide report by Michael Ausiello.Katims, who last year wrote and produced Fox’s short-lived “Wedding Bells” as he oversaw “FNL,” will now split his time between “FNL” and “Bionic,” according to Ausiello.

And whilst we're on the subject...
According to DigitalSpy, David Eick had this to say about Morgan's departure due to 'creative differences:"Finding the people—not just people who get it, but defining what the 'it' is that you want everyone to get... is its own sort of separate endurance test. I think this is really no different from, frankly, most of the genre shows I've done in that there's a lot of turnover early in the process. It's just the way it works."

Eick also stressed the variety of different interpretations possible for the new television series, which stars English actress Michelle Ryan in the title role. "Some people come in thinking, 'Well, if it's got someone with super strength, it must mean it has to be really kind of funny and kooky,' and other people come in and said, 'Well, we've got someone with a tortured soul who's had this thing perpetrated on her, then it's got to be very dark and twisted.' Other people might say, 'Well, it should be very female and soft.'

Morgan quits, show breaks production schedule?
Variety.com have confirmed that Executive Producer and fan-fave Glen Morgan has left Bionic Woman after "creative differences", cited NBC insiders. "Glen Morgan has helped create a great template for 'Bionic Woman' but has decided to pursue other endeavors now," says a statement from Universal Media Studios, which produces the show. "We wish him the best." This is a disapointment to genre fans who were pleased to see someone they knew, on board as a driving force behind the new show. Rumours are also going about that the showwas also shutting down production, but an NBC rep said that isn't the case. However, industry insiders believe it's possible the show—which is now in production on its fifth episode -- still might take a break for a while in order to give the writers a chance to focus on refining the show's directions. Variety.com states that shutting down production doesn't always have a negative impact on a new show's future. ABC's Grey's Anatomy and Brothers & Sisters both took brief hiatuses early in their run -- and went on to become hits.
